A Day of Mourning íV December 5, 2004

On December 5, 2003, the Canadian community will gather at Sai Wan Bay War Cemetery to do a remembrance service in memory of those young militia personnel who came all the way from Canada to station in Hong Kong and sacrificed their lives in the defence of Hong Kong against the Japanese invasion in World War Two.

They came in answer to the call of duty and died in this land which they had little connection. For some, they perished in camps, as prisoners of war, and suffered extreme hardships during internment, and died. For the few survivors, they had terrible memories of the inhuman treatments which they, and their buddies who perished whether directly or indirectly, from the internment. Such memories must have lasted for the rest of their lives, and the suffering, even greater.

CCA have made arrangement, though, for two Vice Chairmen responsible for External Affairs, Michael Ma and Fred Kan to attend and lay the wreath in memorial of those brave Canadian soldiers who sacrificed their young lives for Hong Kong and a good cause.

If you wish to join, please call Edwina Wong of the Consulate at 2867-7350 for further information.
